Androu Gerges’ legal career is dedicated to criminal defence. A graduate and recipient of the Benjamin Laufer entrance scholarship at Osgoode Hall Law School, one of Canada’s most prestigious law faculties, Androu has a diverse background in criminal law. During his time at Osgoode Hall, he took part in the Criminal Intensive program, run by Justice Rondinelli of the Ontario Court of Justice and Justice Di Luca of the Superior Court of Justice. During the Criminal Intensive Program, he was matched with one of Toronto’s largest criminal defence firms. Androu also spent his last summer at Osgoode Hall at the College Park Crown Attorney’s office. 

Androu began practicing criminal law more than five years ago, immediately opening up Androu Gerges Law in 2017. He has successfully conducted criminal trials and appeals at all levels of court in Ontario including the Ontario Court of Justice (OCJ), Superior Court of Justice (SCJ) and the Ontario Court of Appeal (ONCA). He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.

Androu is a meticulous and highly knowledgeable criminal defence lawyer. With his main office located at Yonge and Sheppard and satellite offices located in close proximity to Ontario’s largest courthouses, he frequently represents clients charged with everything from drinking and driving and domestic assaults, to firearm possession and drug-related offences.

Since 2021, Androu has received the CommunityVotes Platinum Award in the category of Best Lawyer in North York every year.

Androu also provides legal advice and services to victims of crime, witnesses and individuals who may be under investigation by police. Androu has helped several complainants provide affidavits in order to assist in having charges withdrawn after they have been laid against a friend or intimate partner.

Elaine Balboa

Elaine Balboa is a law clerk at Androu Gerges Law with a strong passion for criminal law and the protection of human rights.

Originally from Cape Verde, Elaine moved to Canada to attend Ontario Tech University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Legal Studies with a minor in Human Rights Law in 2020. During her studies, she was recognized on both the President’s Honour List and the Dean’s Honour List. Her academic training provided her with a strong foundation in legal research and critical analysis.

Elaine is fluent in Cape Verdean Creole and Portuguese, and is passively bilingual in Spanish.

At Androu Gerges Law, Elaine supports the firm’s daily operations, including organizing client files and disclosure, assisting with court appearances, coordinating client meetings and jail visits. She is known for her professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Throughout her university years, Elaine developed a strong interest in working with firms dedicated to improving access to justice for marginalized communities — a commitment reflected in the work of Androu Gerges Law.
